Whole Wheat or Raisin?

18 04 2010

Any woman (and probably some guys) can appreciate the value of having a highly reflective surface nearby at all times.  This late 1940s ad for Toastmaster makes all sorts of grandiose parallels between historical figures and said toaster, but the graphic designer really hit the nail on the head with the image of Cleopatra using a burnished piece of metal to admire her reflection (see detail below).  Fast forward to 2010 with the modern Cleo before her polished metal toaster checking for poppy seeds or making sure her bangs aren’t askew.  Technology may change, but human behavior doesn’t.
