Glass design reached its zenith during the late nineteenth century.  Practical objects and whimsies were produced in equally elaborate style.  This pattern glass compote is a great example.  Standing almost a foot high, the piece is decorated with scenes of ancient ruins and the Sphinx, and an adorable three-dimensional Sphinx reclines on the base.  The perfect place to stash your Skittles.
