What does Scotch tape have in common with Ancient Egypt?  Um, nothing…  But ‘unexpected’ and ‘ridiculous’ are trademarks of the best advertisements.  For example, this 1940s promotional for Scotch Cellulose Tape – which combines a cartoon of ancient embalmers and instructional thumbnails of the various household repairs this transparent wonder can tackle.  These hints range from “fix that tear in your smart plastic party apron” to covering bandages to keep them clean, and taping a book of matches to your cigarette pack for convenience.
